We can not avoid the fact that whilst ever it is cheaper to send a mattress to landfill, an ethical disposal route will not be the favoured choice to most. Throughout 2022 the industry saved over £8 million by diverting to landfill rather than an ethical mattress recycling facility so why would they choose any other end destination?
OUR AIM IS TO OFFER A SOLUTION THAT DOES NOT OPT FOR THE EASY WAY OUT AND TO SIMPLY RAISE THE COST TO LANDFILL, OR EVEN TO IMPLEMENT AN EPR (Extended Producer Responsibilty scheme). AFTERALL IT IS US; THE CONSUMER THAT ENDS UP PAYING FOR IT. REBORN-THE SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURER LOOK TO GET TO THE ROUTE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT FROM THERE. FIX IT BY CREATING A CIRCULAR ECONOMY THAT RAISES THE VALUE OF THE SEPARATED COMPONENTS AND OFFSETS THIS AGAINST THE TRADIONAL MATTRESS RECYCLING GATE FEE THUS REDUCING THE COST TO ETHICALLY DISPOSE OF YOUR END-OF-LIFE MATTRESS
If we are to incentify businesses not to send mattresses to landfill, we have to aim to reduce the cost of the traditional mattress recycling gate fee to a price that is equal to or is less than the cost of sending the mattress to landfill. ITS THAT SIMPLE!.
In order to do this we have to learn to re-manufacture from the components that yield good integrity and maximise the value of the commodity with as little power, emmissons and resource as possible. This is called Creating a Circular Economy
It’s important that as a global community we all play our part to enact change and a huge part of this is creating sustainable manufacturing, here is a video explaining how a circular economy works.
